CIL Calculator
Lambeth has provided a CIL Calculator (below) in order for developers to calculate the potential
CIL liability for their planning application should it be granted planning permission. Please note all
floorspace details given should be the Gross Internal Area (GIA) figures in square metres.

Follow these simple steps to calculate your potential CIL liability:
Find which CIL charging zone your site is in by either
Clicking 'Lookup Address' and searching for your site; or
Clicking 'CIL Zone Map' and using the map to locate your site and then select the
CIL Zone from the dropdown menu
Enter the total amount of demolition* (if any)
Enter the proposed floorspace for each use separately. Click 'Add Area' and
Input the proposed floorspace for a particular use in the 'Area' box
If there is any floorspace in existing use* that is to be retained and will form part
of the same use as the proposed area that is being added, insert this figure in
the 'Existing Use' box
Select the use for which the floorspace that has been inputted applies to by using
the dropdown menu for 'Select Schedule' under 'Lambeth CIL' (if the use is for
Education or Healthcare change the dropdown under Mayor's CIL. In all other
cases leave the Mayoral CIL rate as £35/sqm)
If a residential rate is being calculated and mandatory social housing relief is
being applied for add the floorspace that will be applied for as social housing relief
in both the Mayor's CIL and Lambeth CIL sections, and if there is any existing
social housing* that is to be retained as part of the calculation insert this amount
under 'SH Existing Use'
Repeat step 3 for all uses that will be included in the planning application
Once all of the floorspace details have been inserted you can see the breakdown of
Mayor's CIL and Lambeth CIL as well as the combined totals and total floorspace details
*To get credit for existing floorspace to be retained and/or demolished it must have been
in lawful use for a continuous period of 6 months out of the 3 years prior to the time when
the planning permission first permits the development (for all planning applications except
phased and outline applications this is the date the planning application was granted
permission. For phased applications this is when the final approval is given under any pre-
commencement condition for that phase. For outline permissions this is on the day of final
approval of the last reserved matter associated with that phase).
Other reliefs and exemptions may be available. Please visit the Lambeth CIL and Mayor's
CIL sections on the Lambeth website and visit the Planning Portal for more information
